SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR
Temporary Part-Time; July 9-15 and/or July 16-22, 2023; 8 am–5 pm
starting at $12.50/hour (depending on experience)
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Bloomington Creative Glass Center promotes life-long learning through hands-on art classes and activities. The BCGC’s 2023 Summer Art Camp focuses on the art-making process to promote children’s curiosity, problem solving, independence and confidence and serves a variety of ages and skill levels. Camp Counselors assist the Camp Instructors in all aspects of operating the BCGC’s summer youth camp.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with youth, a general knowledge of various art techniques and materials, be dependable and have a positive and friendly attitude. All camp staff will promote and nurture the education of students by providing a safe, supportive, and positive environment conducive to learning. Counselors must be friendly and enthusiastic ambassadors of the BCGC’s
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Help Instructors with all camp activities and supervise during creative play, lunch, snack breaks, check-in, and check-out times.
- Assist Camp Staff and Instructors during the duration of the camp program.
- Welcome and check in campers
- Interact with and help campers with their projects
- Sett up and cleaning up materials
- Use time efficiently
- Maintain a safe, secure and healthy educational environment by establishing classroom behavior expectations with consistent enforcement following all BCGC policies and procedures.
- Maintain positive interactions with parents and guardians of students, including communicating with them about their child’s achievements or struggles
- Be an Engaged Team member to promote personal growth and development of best practices.
- Attend meetings, trainings and key program events as determined by program staff
- Respond to emails and requests in a timely manner
PREFERRED COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES):
- Possesses the proficiency (either through education and/or experience) to engage students of all abilities.
- Time management, organizational and planning skills
- Flexibility, resourcefulness, and problem-solving skills as related to effective instruction
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
- Experience working with youth.
- CPR certification is encouraged.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Occasionally required to lift heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
- Perform physical tasks related to the medium in camp.
- Must be able to work both in and out of doors.
