BCGC is always looking for folks to help us bring the arts to the wider Bloomington community. If you enjoy working with kids, we have a job for you. Do you like clerical work, yard work? Come lend a hand. If you looking to be part of a boisterous group, or work in a quiet place, we have a spot for you in our BCGC family.

If you would like to volunteer please contact to our volunteer coordinator, Diana Spoolstra at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., to find out what work is available.

Volunteer at the Great Glass Pumpkin Patch, October 16

Help us make the biggest, best, and this year only, art fair of the Autumn a rousing success.

This year's pumpkin patch is going to look a little different. In the past we have had a line that stretched around the Courthouse Square, with over 2000 in attendance.
This year we will have scheduled times for people to enter the patch, which people will sign up for online. We will have the pumpkins more spread out, and we will limit the number of patrons and volunteers in the Patch at any given time.

It will still take a whole team of people to help put on the Great Glass Pumpkin Patch and we'd love for you to be one of them. Jobs include:

  • Unwrapping the pumpkins
  • Cashier
  • Crowd control
  • Runner
  • Wrapping pumpkins

Sign up to help with the 12th Annual Great Glass Pumpkin Patch here.

There will be a mandatory training for all Pumpkin Patch volunteers Saturday, October 2nd at 12:30pm. If you cannot make the training you may still volunteer but please let us know that in your comments below.

Learn to Blow Glass for FREE with our Apprenticeship program

Group of glassblowers

BCGC’s apprenticeship program allows people interested in glass blowing to get the chance to learn the art on the job while working with experienced glass blowers. As an apprentice you would join our team and help us create the 900+ blown glass pumpkins for our annual Great Glass Pumpkin Patch, held each year in October.

The apprenticeship program is open to anyone who has already volunteered at BCGC for at least 4 hours (see above).

Once accepted into the program apprentices must attend a mandatory two hour apprentice training to familiarize themselves with the glass blowing studio, understand the dangers and safety involved, and to learn rudimentary glass blowing skills. Apprentice trainings are held four times a year.

The next training will be in March, 2020.

After attending training, apprentices are expected to sign up for 24 hours of glass blowing volunteer work in a six month period. In addition to learning as you assist, hours spent helping with glass production count towards earning a free glass class (valued at $60 per hour). Currently all of our glass blowing is done up in Indianapolis and apprentices commit to a full day to glass blowing. We blow glass 2-3 times a month all year long.

The apprenticeship program requires a commitment of time and energy. If you do not feel you want to commit please take a look at our weekend classes for other blowing opportunities.

Not all applicants will be accepted into the apprenticeship program. Admittance depends on available space, physical ability, and ability to commit the time.

If you would like to apply to this program pleases fill out an Apprenticeship Program application and contact us to arrange volunteer hours.
